Utsav Camp Sariska – A Luxury wilderness resort

Created in 2019, Utsav camp Sariska is a radical new ‘glamping’ resort in Sariska, combining world class hospitality and conservation. The property is located in an unprotected wildlife corridor connecting the natural habitat of the Tehla region, and aims to protect the wild and untamed hectares of wild life from poaching.

Twenty custom designed rooms and suites are perched around the property, providing a view and experience unlike any other resort in India. Each room is meticulously designed to invoke the feeling of what it would have been like to be on a luxury safari in the jungles of Sariska.

The luxury camp is the brainchild of a passionate hotelier and wild life naturalist Mr. Luv Shekhawat who has curated the wild life jungle resort with his art-deco theme. Utsav camp Sariska is a culmination of all that Luv Shekhawat has learnt over 20 years in hospitality. He bought the land in order to save it from poaching and created a new travel experience far from India’s beaten tourist track.

The ultra-luxurious juggle lodge which comprises a collection of luxury rooms and tents – has been meticulously designed to evoke Shekhawat’s vision of what it might have been like to be on luxury safari in the jungles of Sariska.

The colorful and spacious rooms are design extravaganzas, all featuring a tastefully eccentric decor. They are stocked with expensive antiques, dark wood furniture, beautiful upholstery, and remarkable curios. What caught my attention was the glass teapot with infuser and small pots of tea and coffee, unlike other hotels that have satches of tea and coffee. It’s a delight to sip hot tea while enjoying the scenic view from the room.

The space outside the room is left wild to reflect the jungle vibe with few trees planted. One can enjoy the rustic jungle vibe and enjoy the sound of birds in the morning.

The 20 luxury cottages, tents and villas are dotted along a 1.5 km (1 mi) stretch of pathway with uncut grass on both sides. The tents are raised above the ground, allowing the natural migratory movements of the forest inhabitants to continue, and to provide sweeping views across the forest.

The tents are opulently designed with tasteful local colors and fabrics, and fascinating curios to recall the age of explorers.

Each tent features an extra-large king-size bed made of hardwood, single vanity, an enclosed shower cubicle and a large outdoor deck.

Dining at Forest Lodge –

Utsav Camp serves terrific cuisine from Rajasthan that has authentic local flavors.  Meals are served at the restaurant and room service isn’t encouraged keeping in mind the respect for the habitat around the jungle lodge. Daily breakfast and lunch options are buffet and a-la carte depending on the number of people staying.  Thanks to the small number of guests during our stay, special requests like dishes for fasting were readily accommodated with some advance notice. My family devoured the continental and Indian dishes that included daal baati, vegetables like ker sangri, gatta ki subzi along with flatbreads.

The courtyard not only comprises the main restaurant but also an atmospheric amphitheater that overlooks a small waterfall. The amphitheater is the perfect location to mingle with other guests and unwind after a day of trekking in the jungle, or enjoying a live performance by the local singers and dancers from Rajasthan.

A flight of stairs leads to a magnificent swimming pool that is shaped like an enormous bathtub, nestled amidst the jungle’s lush greenery. There’s a wooden terrace next to the pool with one row of sun loungers where one can soak in the lush greenery surrounding the property.

Activities

Utsav Camp offers a wide variety of wilderness experiences that exemplify the camp’s spirit of fun and adventure, promising authentic interactions with the incredible national parkland setting – all with a twist of Utsav’s style.

The Jeep safari for instance takes guests on exciting excursions like temple visits and jungle safaris. We visited the Jain temple and Shiv temple, around 10 km away from the property.

Guests can join the untamed forest and its wildlife inhabitants. Another highlight is exploring the village site on a bike and getting acquainted with the locals.

A highly interesting activity is their high tea setting amidst the natural jungle surroundings on the boulders. Equipped with baskets of goodies like cakes, macaroons, sandwiches made from their in-house bakery, the high tea experience on the top is the most cherishing experience while staying with them.

A key part of the protection of the forest is a partnership with TOFT. A collection of lodges that invite guests to discover some of the planet’s most treasured places, while helping to protect those places for generations to come.
